Antje Ullrich is an illustrator who runs drawing workshops for children and families. She needed a simple, approachable website to showcase her work and allow people to sign up for upcoming events. Her previous attempts to build a site with tools like Wix and Squarespace had been frustrating — the designs didn’t match her creative voice, and the interfaces were overwhelming.
The main challenge was to create a visually distinctive site that reflected Antje’s playful-yet-professional tone while keeping the interface intuitive and manageable for both users and Antje herself. It also had to serve multiple purposes: inspire trust, communicate her brand values, and lay the foundation for a future portfolio site — all without overwhelming visitors.
We began with a 1:1 workshop to better understand Antje’s goals, design preferences, and the tone she wanted to set. I translated her ideas into wireframes, organizing content around clarity, usability, and emotional resonance. Rather than building from scratch, we chose a Framer template together and adapted it heavily based on our structure. Framer offered a visual interface that Antje could easily learn, which meant I could confidently hand off the project knowing she'd be able to make minor updates herself. We iterated on several design details — from the typography to the layout of testimonials — based on early user feedback and her personal design instincts.
The final product is a light, friendly website that balances brutalist elements with playful charm, aligning with Antje’s values of creativity, inclusivity, and sustainability. The navigation is simple and direct, the visuals are bold but not overwhelming, and the structure makes it easy for visitors to sign up or get in touch. I built and launched the site using Framer, customizing the experience with interactive touches and a focused color palette that lets Antje’s illustrations speak for themselves.
The site has become a central touchpoint for Antje’s workshops, helping her establish a more professional online presence while maintaining her unique tone. Feedback from parents and participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the site’s clarity and “warm energy.” I'm particularly proud of how intuitive the handoff was — Antje now manages updates on her own, making the site both sustainable and scalable for her future needs.
