Designing a welcoming website for an illustrator and workshop host

The Challenge

Antje Ullrich is a Berlin-based illustrator who runs creative workshops for kids and adults. She needed a small, friendly website that introduced her work, explained her workshops, and made it easy for people to get in touch.

The site had to feel light, approachable, and true to her character — but also be clear, well-structured, and easy to maintain on her own.

Process

1. Getting to Know the Client

We started with a small kickoff workshop. Antje shared her background, her goals for the site, and examples of work she liked.
The tone we arrived at: personal, gentle, and direct. Nothing flashy — just something that felt like her.

2. Wireframing & Content Structure

I sketched and then prototyped a simple one-page layout with distinct content sections:

  • Short intro
  • Gallery
  • Workshop details
  • Contact info

The flow was designed to be scrollable and intuitive — everything should be findable within seconds, even for older visitors or first-time users.

3. Building in Framer

I built the site in Framer, using one of their base templates as a starting point.
I customized it to match Antje’s colors, illustration style, and typography — keeping the layout responsive and accessible.
Content was made editable via the CMS, so Antje could manage updates without needing help.

Outcome

  • The site reflects Antje’s personality and tone — warm, minimal, and clear
  • Parents gave positive feedback: “I understood the workshop setup right away”
  • Antje felt confident editing content herself after a short handoff session

Reflection

This project reminded me that good UX isn’t always about scaling — sometimes it’s just about making something that fits someone’s life.
The site is small by design. But it does exactly what it needs to do — with care, simplicity, and a little joy.
